Since 1979 PCS has provided effective, holistic, professional mental health services to persons of all ages, regardless of a client’s income or insurance resources. As a private, non-profit agency not supported by government funding, PCS has thrived and grown, despite the dramatic cuts to mental health funding by the state. Additionally, it has met the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic by instituting new policies and procedures designed to protect the health of both clients and staff.
The mission of PCS is to promote healing and wholeness of mind, body, and spirit through psychotherapy, consultation, and education. Working cooperatively with other agencies in the communities we serve, PCS strives for a world in which effective and compassionate mental health services are available, without barriers, to all who need them.
The chronic stress caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly increased the need for mental health services. As a result of this public health threat, experiences of anxiety, depression, family stress, suicidality, and addiction have soared, effecting people of all ages and circumstances. Several years ago PCS recognized that many people who could benefit from mental health counseling were unable to access or afford those services. Typically, this was because they did not health insurance, or they had “catastrophic” plans with very large deductibles and high co-payments. To enable more people to receive mental health care PCS created the Helping Hands Fund. PCS uses donations to this fund to provide effective, evidence-based counseling to people are a very reduced cost.
Over the years the Helping Hands Fund has supported counseling for children coping with abuse and neglect, adolescents struggling with self-injurious behaviors and depression, young adults experiencing the onset of severe mental illness, couples dealing with conflict and inter-personal violence, adults attempting to stay sober and recover from addictive behaviors, retired adults adjusting to medical problems and the loss of loved ones, older adults searching for meaning and value while facing end-of-life issues.
If you or someone you care about has ever experienced emotional, behavioral, relational, or mental health problems, you understand how important counseling can be. If you would like to support the essential counseling services that PCS provides, please consider making a donation to the Helping Hands Fund. Your tax-free donation will help ensure that PCS will continue to be able to provide these services to all in need. The services PCS is providing are having a significant impact on the mental health of persons living in the communities it serves, one person at a time. Your support is deeply appreciated.
